Domestic Terrorism: Dr. Tiller murdered
I emerged form my hole (I've been making necklaces) to find an email from Planned Parenthood that Dr. Tiller was assasintated this morning.

He provided late term abortions in Kansas. The first, unsuccessful, attempt on his life happened 8 months into Clinton's presidency. When there's a Democratic president, hate radio goes up a notch.

Democrats in power, it will be terrorism against abortion, and terrorism against women. Expect more of this

Can't have women making decisions for themselves, no, no, no

I saw this in the (UK) Guardian and by the end of the article was literally in tears of rage. They quoted a woman who'd discovered @ 22 weeks pregnant, after a long time of trying to have a baby, that the foetus had hydrocephaly (ie was basically never going to have any kind of higher brain function); she had travelled to Tiller's clinic because not a single doctor anywhere on the eastern seaboard of the US would give her an abortion.

Now I'm sure that doesn't surprise those of you Stateside at all, but from my possibly privileged European perspective it was horrifying, and made me all the more angry not only at Tiller's murder but at the various "pro-life" (quote marks used advisedly) campaigners the Guardian quoted who were more than happy to find that murder quite acceptable.

And I've been worried about Dr. Tiller since November -- some of the abortion rights people on Daily Kos (who work in womens' clinics)warned that they expected an increase in anti-abortion violence since Obama's win.

This assassination attempt on Dr. Tiller succeeded. The first attempt (someone else) failed -- it was 5 months into Pres. Clinton's 1st term. :-(

I wish we were like Canada. Canada has no abortion laws -- it's governed by medical standards (as it should be). They've got much less of a Culture War happening in Canada. I read sites like "Life News" (to keep track of what the pro-criminalize abortion people are doing). They look for and trumpet any abortion "scandal" they can find. All that ever happens in Canada is protests.
